College Study Habits to Start Right Now

Now that Thanksgiving break is behind us, it is officially #finalszn. It can be tough to focus on the deadlines ahead of when winter break is in our line of vision. However, this is the time to sit down and finish this year as strong as possible. Make sure you put your best self forward for the next couple of weeks and use these 5 study habits to crush those exams. It’s grind time!

Write. Everything. Down.

No matter how little or how many different things you have going on, it is so easy for that last assignment to slip your brain. Dust off your planner and write everything that is due in the coming weeks so you can remember to turn in that extra credit assignment that will bump you up to that A or the 2000 word research paper that is due the day before Winter Break. Check your planner or calendar every day so you can check off your to-do list and feel a bit more stress-free when it comes down to studying for those major exams.

Find Your Study Buddies

One suggestion for finding people in your class is to actually go to class. With COVID, most things are on Zoom or other sites, so take the time to attend the lectures, even when it is the last thing you want to do. When you are in class, notice some of your classmates that are also attending so you can start a conversation with them through email or other forms to express your interest in studying with them. From there, you should find other motivated students that would quickly join a study group, even if it is virtually. Keep each other in the loop for all things class and compare notes for the exam so you can all excel together.

Review your Notes (Before the Day of the Exam)

We all know it’s easier said than done to study a week in advance for an exam. But it can save so much time if you read over your notes after you read them each class. Then, you can use your notes as a refresher rather than learning the information all over again. Get all of the tedious studying tips out of the way first, like writing flashcards or reviewing your professor’s slides. Once you have everything in front of you, you will be able to sit down at least two or three days before the exam and absorb the information like a pro. Don’t knock it until you try it!

Stick to your Study Spot

Most say that sticking to one study place can be beneficial to your study habits because it will become more routine to your day. Find a nice and relaxing nook that will keep you motivated without any distractions. This includes your cell phone, chatty roommates, or sometimes even your bed. If you find it hard to work in your room because your bed is calling your name, try to work in a neutral room, like a family room, a library, or a coffee shop. Whatever works best for you, stick to that!

Get the Help you Need

Here at Subject Saviors, we are ready for your last-minute calls when you are cramming for your Chemistry exam or any other subject for that matter. We know that it is stressful to balance all of the things going on right now because we are and have been in your shoes. As students, we are ready to get you through these trying weeks because it motivates us to get through them ourselves. You also want to create as many contacts as you can so you have reliable people to reach out to when the seconds of the semester are counting down. Be proactive by reaching out to your professor weeks before your exam, rather than an hour before. Find those people to cheer you on from the sidelines and keep them.

The last and most helpful habit to have is to breathe. Just take a deep breath and realize that life goes on and you will pass that exam. Use these tips and create new habits for yourself as the new year comes around. Happy Studying!
